Healthy Dieting Tips

When it comes to dieting, you will find all kinds of crazy diets in the market today. Seemingly, not a day goes by without the next “new” fantastic diet plan being released. In addition to the many diets there seems to be all sorts of food aids, magic pills, and other things to promote weight loss. First there were diet shakes, and from there, diet industry has evolved to include everything from candy and diet bars, to pills and patches. Each item makes the claim that it can help you lose unwanted weight quickly and easily.

Dropping a few pounds using these things is pretty easy, but you will never experience sustainable weight loss using these types of aids.  You must make changes in the types and quantities of foods you eat in order to successfully lose weight.

The following tips will help you on your weight loss journey.

1.Eat More:

Did you read that twice? Yes, eat more!  The key is to eat healthy foods high in fiber. Eat more vegetables and fruits. You will fill up on foods that are good for you and you will not be inclined to calorie-laden junk foods.

2. Drink More Water:

Not enough can be said about the importance of drinking water in an effort to achieve your weight loss and fat loss goals. Water hydrates the body first and foremost but water is also an important way of promoting satiety, that is, a feeling of fullness. Other drinks do not work nearly as well as water. Many drinks, even fruit juices, contain a lot of empty calories from sugar that you need to avoid while trying to lose weight.

Another great thing about drinking lots of water while dieting is to help maintain the elasticity of your skin so you can avoid some of the appearance of  ‘sagging skin’ that often accompanies large weight loss. As added bonus drinking plenty of water will make your skin look radiant and beautiful as well.

3. Set Goals:

Having goals is one of the most important things you can do when working to lose weight. Try to make sure that your goal is aggressive but achievable. You should aim for a sustainable weight loss goal of approximately 2 pounds per week.  More than that is really not healthy for you.  Setting goals using a support partner to hold you accountable is also very valuable.  Journal everything you drink and eat for the next month.  This that do lose an average of twice the weight than those who don’t!

4. Move!

While this may seem a bit too easy for most, getting up and moving is one, if not the absolute best way to burn calories. The simple truth is that you will not lose weight unless you burn more calories than you consume. The more activities you engage in to burn calories, the more likely you are to shed those unwanted pounds and meet your goals.

Some great activities that actually burn calories include: gardening, golf, dancing, playing volleyball, running, jumping rope, playing hop scotch with your little ones, and playing tennis. I mention these activities because you can fool yourself into believing you do are not really exercising, but you are burning calories. Even cleaning house requires movement and energy. Put on some great music, and dance around while cleaning. Not only will you have more fun, but you will burn some extra calories as well.
